Red Apple Rides
Mar. 27, 2018
Phil was born and raised in the Waterford area and has had a passion for our community from a young age. After attending The University of Western Ontario, he decided to jump into entrepreneurship with Bruce Veltri in 2009. They started Victoria Eldercare and have just celebrated the completion of their 8th successful year. He is also part of the Norfolk Community Foundation, and most importantly happily married and a father of 2 wonderful children aged 4 and 2 years old. Just last year he launched a new company called Red Apple Rides. Their Bicycle Rental, and guided bicycle tour company is about to start their second year of business and he is very excited to talk to us about what they are all about, and what they have planned in the community over the Spring/Summer/Fall seasons. |

Tumaini Update & PHF Award
Aug. 28, 2018
Born in Toronto, Ontario in 1961, Cherie grew up in typical, middle class neighborhoods in Tornto, Mississauga, Burlington, and most recently Simcoe, Ontario. She attended Mohawk College (Accounting) and McMaster University in Hamilton (Women's Studies & Religious Studies) and has worked in real estate since 1980 in accounting, management in ginseng farming since 1992. She is mom to two adult step children Amanda and Stephen and their younger "Tanzanadian" brother Kelvin and is "Mama" to the "watoto" (children) of Tumaini! Cherie volunteered with the Burlington Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce);with Girl guides Canada as a troop leader & regional director; as a mentor with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization; and has volunteered on several different committees within her church. She is a three time recipient of the Rotary's "Paul Harris Fellow". Early in 2009 Cherie tended to her dying father (prostate cancer) nursing him through his death in April. Shortly after his funeral she vowed to realize a life long dream to "give back" some of the many blessings she has enjoyed over the years. Africa, and its terrible need had tugged at her heart for many years. A local newspaper ran an article on Tanzania and helping children and the link was Oddo. They met initially over the internet, Cherie decided to make a trip to Tanzania to investigate and the rest as they say, is history. Tumaini is now in its tenth year providing aid and support to 94 children, handicapped, abused, orphaned, abandoned. Additionally, Tumaini has adopted the village secondary school and sponsors the salary of one additonal district social worker. |

Sunrisers: Your Welshpool Friendship Exchange committee has planned a full day bus tour to Niagara for Monday September 11. We have a 33 passenger bus,so lots of room for Roarians, spouses, partners and friends. The day starts at 7:30 am.Upon arrival at the falls we will be boarding Hornblower(formerly Maid of the Mist) tours for a river ride to the base of the falls. This is always an exciting and dramatic way to view Niagara. If getting wet is a concern, you can stay nice and dry in the cabin. After photo ops of the falls we head to lunch at Whirpool Golf Club then on to Niagara on the Lake for some free time shopping or just experiencing this great town. A hilight of this tour, and not something many(or any) of us have partaken,is the Peller Estates Ice Wine "10 Below Experience".A guided tour of the ice wine facility and full information on the process then, after donning warm parkas, into the tasting room ice bar and a tutored ice wine tasting.Everyone I have spoken to about this says it is a "must experience". Bus home for estimated 7:30pm arrival Although we have all been to Niagara more times than we can count, your committee has put together something unique. Come join us to experience Niagara through the eyes of our guests. The day is open to all members and their guests. You have an option of joining us for the boat tour and/or ice wine experience,Rudi will email all members with these options, but please sign up for the basic bus tour thorough this club Runner invitation.
