Visiting Scottish Rotary Curlers, anxious for their first win in Simcoe since the Canada-Scotland Rotary Curling Tour began in 1957, burn the ice in their matches with Simcoe Rotarians November 21, 2012. Their tactic proved successful for the Scots who celebrated their first Simcoe victory in the long history of the International Rotary Curling Tour. Flag bearers Garry McMillan (Rotary Club of Simcoe) and John Taddei (Rotary Club of Inverkeithing) lead curlers as they are “piped” on to the ice at the Simcoe Curling Club.

From the time that the Canada-Scotland International Touring Tour began in 1957, touring Scottish Rotary Curling teams have only been victorious once facing Rotary curlers from the Rotary Clubs of Simcoe and Norfolk Sunrise at the Simcoe curling club.  This year’s 22 member  Scottish team, anxious about their matches on November 21st in Simcoe,  was overjoyed that they became the first visiting team to win in Simcoe in the history  of  the Tour.  Scot’s Captain Matt Murdock of the Rotary Club of Lockerbie took to heart Simcoe Captain Garry McMillan’s warning that future visiting teams should not become complaisant.  Simcoe Rotary Curlers are proud of their history – only one lose over the long history of the tour – and will defend their record vigorously when the next Scot’s team visits in 2016.

During their 2 day visit to Simcoe, the visiting Scottish Rotarians were welcomed into the homes of local Rotarians and properly feted enjoying home hosting, area tours, local delicacies, and a unique “Progressive “dinner.
