On Halloween Day October 31st, 2020 the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise held our annual Coats for Kids event at the First Baptist Church in Simcoe.
Our advertising and 'passing the word' requesting donations was very successful as approximately 425 coats and items of warm clothing were collected and dry cleaned by our key partner Peerless Cleaners; and Cathy Maxwell and her team of Langton Knitters created and donated over 325 knitted items!
We were able to distribute approximately 150 coats and items of warm clothing plus lots of knitted goods to the needy folks who visited our event, but the number of visitors was lower than than in previous years (maybe covid concerns or our message didn't get out to enough of the needy?)
So we had plenty of 'overflow' items that were distributed to organizations that expressed prior interest - the Simcoe Pregnancy Centre, the Simcoe Woman's Shelter, the Salvation Army in Simcoe, Value Village in Brantford and John Wallace's Pond Inlet project in Nunavut.  MANY THANKS to ALL the volunteers who helped make this event possible and help keep kids warm this winter: Bettyann & Lisa Carty, Cathy Harrop, Nancy Sherwin, Lucine McKay, Steve & Jane Malo, Marjorie & Jim Dawson, Paul Zorad, Pete Wheatley, Andy Kooistra, Dave Bradshaw and Dave Nicolle
