At our weekly 7am, Zoom gathering, Marjorie Dawson introduced our Guest Speakers, Lucy Bonanno, President and CEO of the Norfolk General Hospital, she in the company of Aaron Gautreau, responsible for hospital communications. Lucy gave us a very enthusiastic overview of the NGH and its operations, specifically discussing her experiences in running a critical health care facility in a difficult time. On behalf of the Club, Joanne Keifer (a retired hospital professional), thanked Lucy and Aaron, seeking to pass along our regards and appreciation to every one of the health care workers who are working so hard to keep us healthy.As part of our Op EyeSight program, we have restored the sight of one more person in India in Lucy's name.

Lucy Bonanno will take over the role of NGH president and CEO effective August 31. Bonanno will also serve as the CEO of West Haldimand General Hospital under the existing agreement between the two facilities. 

A press release sent out by NGH says Bonanno has over 20 years of experience working in health care and leading complex system transformation initiatives in rural and smaller community settings. 

“I’m thrilled with the opportunity to join a team of health care professionals, volunteers and community donors who make a difference for patients and their families every day,” Bonanno said in the release. “As safe, efficient family-centred health care organizations, I’m looking forward to learning more about the people, the culture and the communities that make Norfolk General, West Haldimand General and Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home so special and recognized as innovative leaders among their peers in Ontario.” 

For the past five years, Bonanno has served as CEO at Geraldton District Hospital, overseeing the hospital, including a long-term care wing.Bonanno is a certified health executive with a Master of Business Administration in Executive Management and a Master of Arts in Leadership.
