Karen Lindsay, Brian Dargie, Carley Lindsay, Keith Ellis

 

Four community members were recognized on April 30th by the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise, and awarded Paul Harris Fellowships, the highest award given in Rotary.  District Governor Rick Sterne was on hand to honour the Norfolk community recipients.

Brian Dargie was recognized for his outstanding community service while owner of Burtol Cleaners and his role in the Coats 4 Kids program which cleaned and repaired over 20,000 winter coats. Norfolk Sunrise Rotarians distributed these coats to community members over the past decade and a half.

Carley Lindsay is an amazing young lady, recognized for her leadership and advocacy to young people across Canada who suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease.  A “role model for people of all ages,” Carley’s courage, enthusiasm and dedication provide the chemistry needed to be an excellent mentor to others to overcome their health challenges.

Karen Lindsay was honoured for her leadership with several community organizations in Norfolk. A tireless community volunteer, Karen can be found building trails, organizing and leading community tours, preserving the local heritage, and any number of other roles that require vision, dedication, and passion for community.  Her enthusiasm is contagious, evidenced by the service and achievements by daughter Carley and others in the community.

Deborah Ellis is highly respected around the world as an award-winning author. Through her writing, Deborah has raised awareness to the plight of young people in grave danger around the world. Respected also as a philanthropist, Deborah has personally donated over $1.5 million to assist young people at risk to overcome their staggering challenges. Deborah’s award is a sapphire-level award.

 

To recognize the contributions of each of these outstanding community members with a Paul Harris Fellowship award, the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise has made a $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation, and the sapphire-level award represents a $2,000 contribution.

The Rotary Foundation is credited with the near elimination of polio around the world as well as many other international and local initiatives related to peace and conflict resolution, health, education, literacy, and community development.
