There are several ways one can be honoured with a Paul Harris Award - but what happens when the recipient(s) have excelled to the extent where the Paul Harris criteria are insufficient to recognize the contributions being made??Such is the case with our own Jim and Marjorie Dawson - if ever there was a community-minded 'power-couple', surely Jim and Marjorie qualify. With no suitable Paul Harris token available, it was left for Past-President John Wallace to eloquently recognize them within their Rotary peer group, for the example that they set for all of us, as well as for the ever-continuing volunteerism that reflects on us all and is so appreciated by the individuals they support.
Well done Jim and Marjorie - you are indeed 'People of Action' and wonderful proponents of our motto - 'Service above Self'.
Jim & Marjorie Dawson
Both Marjorie and Jim are devoted long time members of Rotary. Serving almost 50 years together. from 2000 to 2003, and then from 2011 to the present-time in RCNS as well as from 2003 to 2011 in the Rotary Club of Portland Maine.
Marjorie is RCNS Past President 2016-17. Past Chair of the Norfolk General Hospital Board and is currently a member of the Board for Lighthouse Festival Theatre. Current Chair of the Grace United Church Council.
Jim Chairs the Outreach Committee at Grace United Church. Started the 'Seniors
Helping Seniors' program at the church. Organizes the 'tech team' to provide livestreaming of services. Aenvironmental champion in RCNS organizing trail maintenance, river clean ups etc. Superb expertise in writing Rotary Global and District Grants applications. Volunteered regularly during Riversyde 83 construction.
Both have travelled abroad for Operation Eyesight projects. Together they are co- chairs of the District Honouring Indigenous Peoples committee. Strong allies for First Nations especially in the community of Pikangikum: arranging for support to meet the needs of the people through musical instruments, bikes, sports, canoeing, and outdoor education. give personal encouragement and support to young native artists.
