It was a great day .... until it wasn't!Celebrating Earth Day 2025, the RCNS undertook to add even more trees to our Sunrise Trail. So it was that ~25 Sunrisers (supported by a few 'toys for the boys'), arrived to plant trees to make our Trail better.
Before the weather turned, the group had managed to plant 120 trees along two rows of the Trail. As a result, our Sunrise Trail was visibly improved and a period of Club fellowship resulted.
A description of the details of the work and a few representative pictures are given at the 'Read more ...' tab whilst all of the available photos taken during the event are given at this link. Check it out - you may be there!
Kudos to Steve Malo and his Environmental Group within the Community Service Ctee for organizing a wonderful day on our Trail.

The trail is currently owned by the provincial Government however the future plan is to transition this parcel to the Waterford Heritage Trail Association and to Norfolk County. Adam Biddle from Norfolk County approved the tree species selection and offered to space the trees and mark each location. His expertise and knowledge was greatly appreciated.. It was important to have the blessing of the county in order not to create present or future problems. Support of the neighbour was also needed so as not to shade his solar panels near the trail. This naturally determines the tree species selected when considering the height of the trees when mature. in order not to shade the panels.
The locates were arranged by Andy and he and Paul Z augered the holes with the bobcats and I provided the tractor with the front end loader to move the mulch which was donated by the county.
Planting started by 8 30 and the task was completed at 11 15 just after the skies opened soaking the last few volunteers.
