The Rotary Foundation

This month we celebrate the Rotary foundation – all the programs and projects that are supported by the Rotary Foundation including Polio plus Group Study exchanges, and Global grants and district grants. For our club, our Microbank project has been helped by RF funds though our partner club in Arizona.  Operation Eyesight was just granted a 50,000 grant from RI. Locally the Foundation support our work on the Waterford Trail with a District Grant, These projects and many more are funded through your donations to the Rotary Foundation.

Donating to the Rotary Foundation is important in a number of ways.  One of the ways that Rotary is so efficient in having funds raised going directly to project costs and not in administration is the way the Rotary Foundation works.  When we send in donations to  RI, the funds are segregated for three years and the proceeds from that investment goes to RI operating funds.  Also the funds that come  come back to our district are based on the funds raised three years ago, so we know exactly the district allocation based on the funds raised in the district three years ago.

Rotary encourages every member to donate $100 US every year and our club is committed to do that through our fundraising activities so in one sense, everyone in our club contributes to the Rotary Foundation through participating in our fundraisers.  However, many of us provide personal donations directly to specific projects such as Operation Eyesight, Microbanks or Nogales Mexico shoebox program but I'd like to encourage you to consider a personal donation to Rotary foundation, since we know how well RI looks after your funds, ensuring accountability and sustainability of the projects; Rotary is also in the top three percent of Charities according to Charity Navigator  which  recognizes sound fiscal management, accountability, and transparency.

The easiest way to donate to Rotary Foundation is to go on line and make a donation- you will need your Rotary number which you can get from Clubrunner or on the front of your Rotarian magasine.  The other way would be to write a cheque to Norfolk Sunrise and indicate it is for the Rotary Foundation and we'll be sure to credit your Rotary account.
