Around 14 million people have been affected, some 6,000 killed, and an estimated 4.4 million displaced by Typhoon Haiyan. Major gaps remain, especially in rural and hard to reach areas. Like most disasters, typhoon Haiyan has hit the poorest and the most vulnerable people the hardest. 4 out of 10 families in the affected provinces were living below the poverty line before Haiyan hit.
ShelterBox has distributed enough aid to shelter over 5900 families across the islands of Cebu, Leyte, Bantayan, Kinatarcan, Samar, Panay and Bohol. ShelterBox Canada sent 6 ShelterBox Response Team (SRT) members, and over 1200 boxes! This would not have been possible without the dedication and support of our wonderful donors.
