Youth Projects from Community Concerns

 

Leanne Bond (left) updated Norfolk Sunrise this week about the outcome of our club's support to the Norfolk County Fair & Horse Show.  The Agricultural Awareness program at the Fair is targeted to Grade 4 students across Norfolk to learn about various aspects of agriculture, and is coordinated with the Grade 4 curriculum. Our funds provide bussing for students to attend.

 

Joyce Gowan (right) spoke about her role as a mentor with the Literacy for Littles program, administered by Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Brant Haldimand Norfolk. This is Joyce's third year year mentoring her "Little."  Their relationship started when her Little was in Kindergarten.  His face lights up whenever Joyce comes to see him. Norfolk Sunrise initiated this program, and provide funds and several mentors.  The 3-year grant provided by the  Ontario Trillium Foundation to get the pilot program off the ground will end in 2016, and BBBS intends to continue the program and expand it when the pilot is ended.
