Get Your Mojo Going - Relay for Life Norfolk
Mark June 6 & 7 on your calendar now. That’s the weekend for the 9th annual Relay for Life at Holy Trinity High School in Simcoe. The Norfolk event runs from Friday evening at 7 PM until 7 AM the following morning. The Relay is a team event, and is both inspiring and a lot of fun. Within a team of 10-15 people, one or more are required to be on the track at all times over the 12-hour period.
Relay for Life is the Canadian Cancer Society’s largest fundraiser and runs in over 500 communities across Canada. In the past 8 years, Relay for Life Norfolk has raised over $900,000. Over 50% of the funds raised go to cancer research. Today, 62% of people diagnosed with cancer will survive, compared to only 25% in the 1940’s when the Canadian Cancer Society began funding research.
Survivor Drenise Cowlard and Steve Irvin explained the Relay program to Norfolk Sunrise members, urging us to enter a team. Shown in the photo are Steve and Drenise presenting a certificate of recognition to the Rotary Club of Norfolk Sunrise for our participation in the Daffodil Brunch. Receiving the certificate is Lucine McKay, our champion for the Brunch.
