On Tuesday morning, 17 Mar ‘26 (Happy St Patrick's Day!), Gail Bouw welcomed Doug Hunt & Ron Keba as our Guest Speakers - both being leaders of the Simcoe Lions Club and both being directly involved in the “Re-Imagine Wellington Park” initiative. They provided us with a most informative update on the progress being made to bring improvements to downtown Simcoe; Wellington Park. They detailed the background of the initiative, the scope of the project, the organization of the fundraising plan and the progress/status of the work. They highlighted the three major componets - the gazebo, the healing gardens and the picnic area enhancements and suggested that they were on-track for ‘shovels-in-the-ground’ right after the Simcoe Heritage Friendship Festival in early August!
More information describing the Wellington Park project is at this link. Several photos from the mornings session are at the ‘Read more …’ tab.
After a number of questions, Co-President Mary Mercato offered appreciative remarks in thanking the Lions for the progress being made. She also indicated the ways in which our own Club, like so many others, is behind the project; morally, materially and physically. The Simcoe Lions Club was then presented with a cheque for the project representing one-half of the proceeds we raised from our most-recently completed 10th CTA Licence.
